Jeff Koons talks to the laptop - a new trend?

CSS do it, Charlie Todd does it and now also Jeff Koons. They all give interviews exclusively to laptops. I presented my prerecorded questions to art superstar Jeff Koons during his Celebration exhibition opening in Neue Nationalgalerie.

Charlie Todd talks to the laptop

Braucht Berlin wirklich sechst Kunstmessen?

Dave the Chimp's Lucky Dip

The Buy Nothing Day is over. So let's start thinking about how we can get p.c. Christmas presents. Totally political correct is to gamble, get a one off piece of art and support an emerging artist. Just take part of Dave The Chimp's game "Lucky Dip". This is an excerpt of his descripition:

"Roll up! Roll up! It's time for Chimp's Lucky Dip! Everyone's a winner! (...) A beautiful, one-off, hand crafted "Human Bein" painting is the prize for everyone who takes part. It's a gamble, but not much risk, as each of these paintings is great. The risk element, and the trust, comes from the fact that the only way to get one of these is to mail me 20 euros cash! Are you willing to put your trust in the Postal Service, and put your hard earned cash into the hands of a stranger...?"

If yes is your answer, go to the Chimp's website for more information.

MGMT live in Berlin Kesselhaus

video
My phone-computer connection works again. I feel so "wowed" to be able to show this film. It's like so "amazing", you know. Seriously, the film might be crap but the gig was great. But who is that girl talking in that film? And what the hell is she saying?

Buy Nothing Day 2008

What about if we all buy nothing on Saturday, November 29th? (All North Americans buy nothing on November 28th) Instead we walk as Zombies through shopping malls or offer to cut up credit cards. The Buy Nothing Day is an initiative by Adbusters.

Tonight I Bang Bang The Virgins and become a Rich Girl

The Virgins from NYC played their first Berlin gig ever at Bang Bang club tonight. And if my N82 phone and my powerbook wouldn't have broken up two weeks ago, I could post now my cell phone film from this cosy gig. I will talk to my phone and beg it to continue bluetoothing with my Mac. It sucks not being able to post my own shots anymore. And by the way I just ordered a USB cable. I just force their connection in the future. Ps. that video is not the official one. The official one is tooo bad to post. P.P.S. They will be back in March.

Improv Everywhere: Mp3 Experiment Berlin

Last Saturday about 300 people met at Alexanderplatz for an Improv Everywhere Flashmob. They all had downloaded an Mp3 file and pressed play at exactly 14:30h. For 45 Minutes they followed the instructions given by a prerecorded meta voice. The result of the Berlin Mp3 experiment you can see here, the four North American Mp3 experiences are documented here.

February this year Sonja Eisman, Stefanie Lohaus and Chris Köver won the Hobnox Evolution1 award. With the €25.000 they funded the first issue of their Missy Magazine. It is a pop culture magazine with an feministic approach. In the contest Evolution2, Hobnox now gives away three times US$ 30.000 in the categories Music, Culture and Film. And Missy Magazine just released their first Missy TV episode. An interview with photographer Martha "Marty" Cooper.

Aaron Rose's The Sads and Beautiful Losers

video
Watching the little cell phone film above, you might think that this music sounds sad indeed. That is because there is no music. Only the people who were lucky enough to grab one of the 65 headphones can hear the sound of The Sads. My attempt in the end of the film to put my phone in the head phones and give the film a soundtrack didn't work out. Sorry, but it is best to attend one of their gigs yourself to get the full sensation of it.

The Sads is a Art Rock project by Aaron Rose. So talking about Aaron Rose, make sure to see his film Beatiful Losers. The Berlin release is at Nov 7th in Tape Club. Already the trailer makes a cold shower run down my neck... I can't wait to see the whole film.

Brooklyn Bike Kill Date 2008?

When you look on the (pretty cool) flyers from the last years, you see that the Black Label hosted Bike Kill event usually takes place around the 26th of October. Maybe this year it will be at the 25th. But so far I haven't seen any "official" date for the 2008 event. So if you know, give me a shout. To find out more about what Bike Kill is, check out this film and watch the photos that Tod Seelie took at the last Bike Kill events.

Sunday Sports: Pilze sammeln

Smoke Kurt Cobain

Saturday is a good day. It is the day of Kurt Cobain's freedom. Australian artist Natascha Stellmach is in behalf of his ashes and rolled them into a spliff. Saturday she will smoke what is left of Kurt Cobain together with eight people in a private and top secret location in Berlin. Of course no media is allowed. Because Media together with Courtney Love killed Kurt. With her installation "Set Me Free" the artist can already look back onto one big success: Courtney Love revealed herself as a liar. After releasing press texts that said that the ashes got stolen from her Hollywood home in May, her publicist Alan Nierob now negated everything in Gigwise.
If you want to be part of the liberating ceremony, you can apply to smoke Kurt with sending an Email to: mail@galerie-wagner-partner.com. More info here: Galerie Wagner und Partner

Agyness Deyn's new haircut Spring 2009

Girls, you can stop cutting off your hair. British top model Agyness Deyn stopped as well. Her platin blond Pixie is so last season, she is now back with the Bob. These Style.com photos show her presenting the Spring 2009 collections by Michael Kors, House of Holland and Burberry Porsum. And by the way, if you remember my post from June, I did well with not getting her haircut, because now Agyness gets mine. But letting it grow takes longer than just a visit at the hairdresser, as we all know. So: "Go Agyness, Go Agyness!" I am curious where her hair growing journey will lead us to.

My scene sucks

Williamsburg Hipster, Orgcore Punker or Brootal Kid: Graphic designer Rob Dobi spend his time categorizing, characterising and drawing the (in)different Scensters. For him it all started 2001 when he found the site How to dress Emo. He realised that "everyone seems to be involved in some sort of strange contest where the winner wears the tightest jeans, puts on the silliest looking makeup, and sports the worst haircut. In the end, everyone loses. You all end up looking the same". Bad news for Hipsters, good news for Rob Dobi. His illustrations and describtions of the urban tribes were published as a book. Dobi's latest clue is his site "My scene sucks". Just send him photos, a list of your favorite bands and bookmarks and Dobi illustrates, describes and categorizes you. Who dares first?

Gareth Pugh Spring 2009

I am a fan of Gareth Pugh. At the London Fashion Week A/W '08 a cold shower ran down my neck when I saw his collection. The architecture and the fabrics he uses combined with the cuts are mind blowing. After winning the ANDAM Award he now showed in Paris for the first time. A little disappointing, though expected is that the collection is less abstract and more wearable than before in London. The enfant terrible is growing up. See the London video about his A/W '08 collection here and the video with his S/S '09 collection from Paris here. Via Style.com

Eatable Art = Eat Art

Kittiwat Unarrom bakes body parts, Daniel Spoerri hangs his dinner table up the wall, Dieter Roth frames chocolate - they all make "Eat Art". First coined during the sixties Fluxus movement by Daniel Spoerri, this term now lives on. Hobnox features two recent Eat Art performances. In "Eat the Wall" by Spanish collective Ali&Cia the visitors have to eat their way through to their friends. The walkable installation "Bread & Bunker by Israeli artist Shahar Marcus consists of five video works and 1500 loaves of bread. If this report wets your appetite, also watch Cool Hunting's report about Kittiwat Unarrom's body part bakery. Yummmy...

Ladiez Bike Polo, Sunday 2pm

Girls, Ladies, werte Damen - tomorrow at 14h we have a ladiez only bike polo gathering. It was so much fun the last time. The video shows Milwaukee's ladies bike gang Pedal Pusher Society. I suggest as a name for Berlin's first female bike gang: "Bike Betty's" (like the song "Black Betty" and the term "Skate Betty"). But let's discuss better names tomorrow at 2pm at Wassertorplatz or if it is wet at Franz-Klühsstr. basketball court. I am looking forward to see you all. More on Bike Polo Berlin's site.

Ujino Muneteru's crossband performance

videoThe Rotatorhead is the core element of Japanese artist Ujino Muneteru's acustic performance. Attached above the record, these wooden bridges control the sound of electronic goods. When I arrived at PSM gallery, the main performance was over. Watching the film, you will see, that only two Rotators already make a lot of noise. To see the real deal I suggest to be at the gallery this Saturday between eight and nine pm, when the perfomance will be reenacted. Meanwhile there is an interview with Ujino Muneteru on PingMag, where YouTube films with other Rotator-performances are embeded.

Bricklane Bike Polo London

Thank you Roxy and Trixie Chicks for organizing this great Bike Polo tournament in London yesterday. 31 teams showed up at 8:30 on a sunday morning to play. Equiped with new Brooks saddles and the best energy, they played until five thirty. Team Muenchen took the trophy home. The photo is borrowed from the London Bike Polo FlickR page. The Berlin Ladiez bike Polo team won the first game 5:1 and lost the second one 1:5, the Berlin guys Mark and John joined with Kevin from Toronto and got kicked out by Muenchen, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Muenchen played hardcore.

Rap History Class

More fun than Grandma(ster) Flash's staged performance was the Rap History class that I attended last night. In the University of Bohannon students gather to learn about HipHop. Each month the professors (K-Boogie, Marc Hype, Sven Huzr, Dejoe and Scientist) teach one year. Yesterday it was the eighth year: 1987. With reading material (photo above) in the library and listening sessions in the auditorium, the full scale of Rap History is being examined. Body moving to the beat is highly recommended to experience the entire process of applied Rap Studies. However good the dancing skills, they don't help to pass the exam. Before 2am students have to turn in their papers. Good students are allowed to take home the history book and can bring a friend next time, at Thursday, the 14th of August when the year 1988 is being taught. Hardcore nerds can start studying now with the help of Rap History's MySpace.

What a media night. His memoir is out now on Broadway books.

More Jennifers on racing bikes

Talking about retro-racing bikes. I stumbled over this cheesy J-Lo video clip in which Jennifer Lopez imitates Jennifer Beals. Hey you video director. What a crazy idea!
Update: After a small research I know now that the video was shot 2003 by David LaChapelle. The choreography is by Jeffrey Hornaday who - in 1983 - did the choreography for Flashdance. J-Lo also wears the same outfit that Jennifer Beals wore in Flashdance. And because of all this Sony (who is responsible for the video clip) had to pay a licensing fee to Flashdance right owner Paramount Pictures. Whatever!

What if... being broke is being pimp?

"The Broke Ballaz" show you how it works. Being broke is the new pimp now. They ride their sister's pink bikes, can't get laid and eat their toe nails when they are hungraaay.
In the real world this video clip is from a comedy production company called Day by Day. The results of this company look like kids tried the Jackass stuff at home and filmed it. How I understood it, they mainly show their clips on DVDs, the web and on evenings called "Rejected - too vulgar for TV". Cheers to Kalle for sending the clip. If being broke would be being pimp it would be great. Especially because everybody would ride around little sweet bikes. More videos are on their YouTube channel.

The fututre of music videoclips: Sue and the Unicorn

Music industry changed. The future of how the videoclips get produced could be this: The musician (Sue Denim from Robots in Disguise) and her filmmaker friend (Brian Belukha) have a sparkling idea. They call up some friends. Within a couple of hours they meet and get into funny outfits. They walk over to a location. (In this case Görlitzer park, because that is where Mister Frisbee hangs out.) They perform the song six times. The best take gets chosen and uploaded in the internet within an hour. That's it than. The videoclip "Pick me up" by  "Sue and the Unicorn" is done and out there for you guys to comment on.
