From the myth about Berghain to the tangible body performer Mad Kate

Digging the internet, I found this pearl of an Arte TRACKS episode from October 2014 which features my report about the myths about Berghain club in Berlin and the tough body and sound performances of Kathryn Fischer aka Mad Kate. The idea for the Berghain report was not to dismantle any myths around this almost sacred place, so we didn´t film inside the club. All interviews with DJ Tama Sumo, artist Marc Brandenburg and photographer Sven Marquardt have been filmed next door in the exhibition about ten years of club art. (By the way, here is a text I wrote about the catalogue to the exhibition, which is available here.) The report "Mythos Berghain" can be found right at the beginning from minute 0:54 to 07:41, the feature on Mad Kate is in the middle of the show from minute 24:57 until 29:38. Enjoy.

Wake up, blog! - With Jeremy Shaw

Wow, this blog has been sleeping. Me on the other hand not. I worked a lot in the last years, producing reports for Arte TRACKS and putting together the show 3Sat Kulturpalast with the team of ZDF and Kobalt Productions. Now I just rediscovered my first ever TRACKS report. It is from November 2012 and shows the Canadian shaman-artist Jeremy Shaw who likes working with dance and other altered states of consciousness. His next opening is June 4th in König Galerie, Berlin. This is the link to the German version, ici le francais.

Tobago's Sunday School Girls

Wining dance battle

Outside Buccoo Sunday School's ladies restroom
With no doubt these three girls from Crown Point are the hottest of the night.
In her real life Theresa works in a social food project.
She came from Trinidad to spend a long weekend in Tobago.
When I first met Foxy (l.) and Sunshine,
Foxy pointed her bare behind at me, pulling her
G-string almost up to her shoulders.
Innocent Precious and Weenie from Plymouth

On the last sunday in September I went to "Buccoo Sunday School" in Tobago. This event slowly starts around nine, pleasing tourists with some cheasy steel pan covers of Love Boat tunes. Once the tourists are gone, Tobago's youth is taking over. Dressed up like in a music video clip of Charly Black and J. Capri, the ladies show what their mama gave them. Around 3am the party is at it's peak: in a dance battle the girls show who the boss in terms of wining is. In the video above you see little Tanja ending the battle with a brutal move onto the back of her blond rival. And to give an idea about the looks of Tobago's Sunday School girls I took some mobile phone snaps in the ladies restroom.

Allesreporter Woodkid
